Guizhou Hydropower, one of the investing partners, has agreed to join the other in boosting funds to accelerate the growth of the renewables business. While it invests in hydropower development in the Wujiang region, it is anticipated that much of the funding for the renewable venture will initially go to wind power developments.

Huadian, the largest independent power producer in Shandong province, said that among its major objectives for the second half of 2007 and going forward was to accelerate its development of hydropower projects.

A hydropower plant is being developed on the Daduhe (‘Dadu He’) river in Sichuan provice, China, and is to four units each of 230MW capacity. The plant is being developed by the Huadian group’s wholly-owned subsidiary Sichuan Huadian Luding Hydropower Co, and is to be completed next year.

The Huadian New Energy venture was established in September 2007.
