10 July 2009

The company has a US$25M contract to supply electrical and automation systems for the 100MW powerhouse by 2011.

ABB is undertaking the work as part of a strategic alliance with Harbin Electric Machinery.

The contract was awarded by local turnkey contractor Grana y Montero, which is undertaking the work for state-owned utility Empresa de Generacion Electrica Machu Picchu SA (Egemsa).

Expanding the plant beyond the existing powerhouse capacity of 90MW, the new project will also see greater regulation of the Vilcanota river.
