Alcoa assures Quebec on steady hydro in Alcan takeover bid

Alcoa has given assurances to Quebec that its proposed purchase of Alcan will change nothing in Alcan's obligations in the Canadian province. The company said that it plans not only meet but exceeds some of Alcan's continuity agreements.

Going further, Alcoa said the merged entity was well placed to operate and develop hydr opower plants. They have plants elsewhere in North America and also in Brazil, where Alcoa is co-owner of some 1687MW under development.
