In DRC, the utility Societe Nationale d'Electricite (SNEL) has contracted alstom Hydro to rehabilitate the 260MW N'Seke plant, on the Lualaba river, by early 2010. There are four 65MW units to be overhauled and works also include rehabilitation of the balance of plant and also to supply hydro-mechanical equipment.
The work in Angola calls for rehabilitation of the Cambambe plant, also of 260MW capacity. Located on the river Kwanza, the plant will have four new 72MVA generators, new digital protection and control systems, and hydro-mechanical and lifting equipment.
The rehabilitated Cambambe units are to be commissioned from this September to June next year, and the work is being undertaken as part of a venture with Odebrecht.
alstom-hydro said the combined order value of the contracts was more than Euro50M (US$66.5M). The company is a joint venture between Alstom and Bouygues.
