Alstom to equip Swiss pumped storage plant

28 October 2009

The contract with Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern AG (KLL) – a JV of energy utility Axpo AG and the canton of Glarus – covers design, engineering, manufacturing, installation, testing, commissioning and training services. The equipment is to be delivered by 2015.

This is the second variable speed pumped storage power plant contract alstom has signed in Switzerland this year. In May 2009, the company was awarded a €125M contract to equip the 628MW Nant de Drance power station with four 15 MW vertical Francis reversible turbines, four 170 MVA vertical asynchronous motor/generator units and other equipment, as well as to handle site delivery, erection, supervision and commissioning aspects.

News of Alstom’s award of the turbine and generator contract at Limmern follows a recent announcement by ABB that it is to provide electrical equipment at the project, including transformers, medium-voltage switchgears, and instrumentation and automation systems.
