Alstom wins Lithuanian hydro contract

The contract, with Lithuanian power producer Lietuvos Energija AB, is worth US$33.6M to Alstom, who will refurbish the main equipment at the 1960s-built hydroelectric facility, located on the river Nemunas in the city of Kaunas, 100km west of the capital Vilnius.

The scope of supply covers new turbine runners, hydro mechanical equipment, new electrical balance of plant including instrumentation and control equipment, as well as rehabilitation of the four 25MW generators.

Alstom is working with two local Lithuanian companies, which will carry out erection and civil works and some mechanical manufacturing. Design work is under way with site work scheduled to begin this autumn, and the project is expected to be completed in 2008. Project management will be carried out from Alstom’s unit in Sweden.
