Andritz, Ensulmeci JV wins contract for EDP's Baixo Sabor

The contract award by Energias de Portugal (EDP) is worth approximately Euro111M, 81% of which goes to andritz. Its partner in the joint venture is Portuguese company Ensulmeci.

Equipment will be supplied to two pumped storage plants, each with two generating units. The package includes reversible pump turbines, motor generators, governors, hydraulic steel structures, automation and a balance of plant package. Separate model tests are planned for the plants.

The scheme is being built on the river Sabor through the utility's subsidiary EDP Gestao da Producao de Energia SA, and is to be completed by late 2013. The expected annual average generation at the scheme is 444GWh of electricity.
