The developer, Himachal Pradesh Power Corp (HPPC), has placed an order with andritz to supply three units and other equipment. The plant is the first being developed by the company, and is to be operational by mid-2012.
Three 37MW turbines are to be supplied along with auxiliaries, generator transformers, switchgear, HV cables and power plant equipment.
The value of the order from HPPC is approximately Euro28M (US$37.3M). The power company is a joint venture between the state government and its electricity utility, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB).
Indian contractor Patel Engineering has the contract to build the powerhouse, and last month was deadline for a further package of civil works to build the diversion barrage, power intake and desanding arrangements.
While the project is the first being developed by HPPC, the company is also pushing ahead with the Kashang project. In total, the three stages of the Kashang scheme - Kashang I, II and III - will have combined installed capacity of 195MW, though a fourth stage has been cited that would add a further 48MW.
