Andritz wins contract on Barkley hydro plant, US

Andritz has been awarded a €65 million contract by the US Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District to rehabilitate the turbines and generators at the 186MW Barkley hydroelectric power plant on the Cumberland River in Western Kentucky.

Under the terms of the deal Andritz will be responsible for the design, manufacture, transportation, erection, testing and commissioning of four Kaplan turbine generator units with a capacity of 46.5MW each, along with associated auxiliaries and ancillary equipment. Andritz’s US subsidiary in Charlotte, North Carolina will execute the contract.

Commissioning of the first unit is expected in September 2023 and once fully complete, power generation is estimated to be approximately 150 GWh per year.
