The company will supply 12 units out of the 44 that will be housed in the 3150MW hydro power plant on the river Madeira, in the state of Rondonia. The company is also to supply 24 voltage regulating systems.
The first 72MW unit is due to be commissioned by the middle of 2012.
The contract is valued at approximately Euro250M (US$318M) and was awarded by the developer Madeira Energia, which is led by Brazilian utility Furnas and contractor Odebrecht.
In September, alstom Hydro announced it would be supplying 22 generators as well as half of the hydro-mechanical and lifting equipment for the plant. The contract was valued at approximately Euro500M (US$636M). As it previously noted, the company will supply 19 bulb turbines. alstom-hydro is a joint venture of French firms Alstom and Bouygues.
Santo Antonio is part of the Madeira scheme, which also includes the 3300MW Jirau project on the same river. Brazil's national environmental regulator, Ibama, last month issued its formal approval for the construction of the scheme, which is being developed by a Suez-led consortium. It is to commence operations from 2013.
