ASDSO awards Dam Safety Scholarship

23 July 2015

The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) has announced it has selected Timothy Sabins as the recipient of its 2015-2016 Senior Undergraduate Scholarship.

Timothy's application was chosen from submittals received from schools across the country. He will receive a $7,500 scholarship for the 2015-2016 academic year, as well as a complimentary ASDSO student membership for one year and complimentary registration and travel to ASDSO's 2015 annual conference held September 13-17 in New Orleans, LA.

Timothy is a senior at the University of South Carolina's Honors College majoring in civil and environmental engineering. He participated in undergraduate research under Dr. Hanif Chaudhry and assisted with dam and levee breach simulation research, including building dam system models to simulate flooding during a dam breach. Timothy recently interned at Dynamic Engineering Consultants close to his hometown of Spring Lake Heights, NJ. He also participates in numerous organizations, including the Chi Epsilon and Tau Beta Pi honors societies, the University of South Carolina Project Vida Club, and several intramural sports.

"All of this year's candidates were highly qualified, but we were especially impressed by Timothy's dam safety related activities, as well as his impressive academic standing," commented ASDSO Scholarship Chairman John Moyle.

This is the twenty-fourth year of the ASDSO Scholarship Program, which awards up to $10,000 to US citizens enrolled in accredited programs in engineering or related fields and planning careers related to the design, construction, or operation of dams.

Applications for ASDSO's 2016-2017 dam safety scholarships will soon be available at www.damsafety.org. The deadline for applying is March 31, 2016.
