Asia sees launch of hydro-informatics centre for river basins

15 October 2008

It is intended that the Center will act as a regional focus for information sharing to improve the decision-support needs of developing and managing river basins.

Earlier this year, the Asia-Pacific water Forum (APWF) launched the “Knowledgehubs” initiative to share information and improve water security. A priority area is river basins, and the information sharing is being referred to as hydro-informatics.

APWF and Asian Development Bank (ADB) organised the three-day forum, starting today, in Zhengzhou. The event is being hosted by the Yellow River Conservancy Commission (YRCC) and will also see discussion on water allocation, flood forecasting, water quality management and other aspects of river basin management.
