Authorities probe Sutlej project impacts

23 April 2004

According to BBC reports from India, the pollution control board of Himachal Pradesh state is probing Sutlej Hydropower Corporation on a number of issues including changes in the dam’s expected height and its environmental impact.

State authorities want to know why the proposed height of the dam has been increased from 60m to 65m without their approval; why minimum water discharges are not being maintained; what area is to be submerged by the scheme and what impact the 5m increase in dam height will have on the surroundings.
