The project has been designed to protect the ecosystem of the river Niger and provide irrigation water for 2000 ha of land in the first phase (to be increased to 31,000ha by 2034) as well as generation of electricity.
The BADEA loan was granted on highly concessional terms, in accordance with the bank's fifth Five Year Plan (2005-2009).
To be reimbursed over a period of 30 years, the loan includes a grace period of 10 years and has an annual interest rate of 1%.
