Baihetan construction progressing

30 November 2020

China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) has announced that concrete placement has been completed for the first dam section at the 16GW Baihetan hydropower project.

On its twitter account, CTG said this was a major breakthrough in the construction technology for 300m tall concrete double-curvature arch dams in China.

The Baihetan hydropower station is designed to have 16 domestically-manufactured generating units each with a 1GW capacity. It will be the second largest hydropower station after the Three Gorges project in terms of total installed capacity once complete.

In October 2020, CTG said it completed the construction of all underground facilities, marking a major milestone at the project.
