BHEL commissions Chhukha Unit-1 in Bhutan

27 June 2019

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully commissioned Unit-1 of the 4x84MW Chhukha hydroelectric project, following complete renovation and modernization (R&M) of the generator.

Unit-3 of the project, built on the Chhukha River, Bhutan, was commissioned earlier by BHEL for customer Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC), after successful R&M last year and has been running efficiently since.

BHEL had originally supplied Units 1 and 3 back in the 1980s, and they had been running successfully since then the company said.  BHEL’s units at Bhopal and Bengaluru have provided the equipment and technical supports for the new R&M job.
