Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has successfully commissioned the first of four 82.5MW units at the Shrinagar hydroelectric Project in Uttarakhand, India.
Located on the Alaknanda River - a major tributary of the Ganga - the project is being developed by Alaknanda Hydro Power Corporation Limited (GVK Group).
BHEL's scope of work in the project includes design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of the four 82.5MW Francis turbines, generators, static excitation system, generator transformer, unit transformer, station transformer, main inlet valve, digital governors, control and monitoring system (SCADA), busduct, associated station auxiliaries, 400kV switchyard and electrical and mechanical balance of plant (BOP).
BHEL is presently executing hydroelectric projects of around 4000MW in various stages of implementation. Other hydropower projects under execution by BHEL in Uttarakhand include Lata Tapovan (3x57 MW), Tapovan Vishnugarh (4x130 MW), Vyasi (2X60 MW) and Vishnugarh Pipalkoti (4x111 MW).
