BKW to buy Italian small hydro plants

4 July 2013

BKW AG is to buy five small hydro power plants with a total capacity just under 10MW from A2A, Italy's second largest energy supplier, at various sites in Brescia province, Lombardy.

In a statement, BRW said the acquisition, valued at around EUR40M, represents a further strengthening of BKW's hydropower commitment in Italy. Since 2006 the company has been operating its eight run-of-river power plants on Lago d'Iseo in Lombardy, with a total installed capacity of 42MW.

In 2011 BKW further boosted its hydropower commitment in Italy with the purchase of five small hydro power plants in the Aosta valley, with a total installed capacity of 8MW.
