Boguchanskaya reservoir filled to design level, Russia

22 June 2015

Russian energy giant RusHydro has confirmed that the reservoir of the Boguchanskaya hydropower plant has been filled to its design level of 208m asl, allowing the plant to reach its full capacity of 2997MW, producing 17.6TWh of electricity per year.

Reaching capacity at the plant (a 50/50 JV of RusHydro and UC RUSAL) will allow for commissioning of the Boguchansky aluminum smelter and other infrastructure facilities in the Low Angara region.

The design maximum capacity of the reservoir is 2,326km3 spreading over Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk regions. The design maximum reservoir level is 209.5m. The power plant will be able to regulate the water level using two spillways: deep-water and overland.
