Brazil’s BNDES approves loan for Corumba III

The loan of US$150.3M represents approximately two-thirds of the total project budget for the plant, which is scheduled to begin commercial operation at the end of this year. The loan was given to Geracao CIII SA.

The plant will have an installed capacity from two unit of 93.6MW and the assured power is to average 50.9MW. Sale of the electricity was previously agreed, in 2002, at R$95.69/MWh (US$146/MWh – Jan 08 prices).

Corumba III is being built on the river Corumba in the municipality of Luiziania in the central state of Goias. The river is a tributary of the river Paranaiba, which is itself a tributary of the Parana.

An 800m long dam with a maxiumum height of 54m will be used to impound a reservoir with a surface area of just more 77 square kilometres.

The 138kV transmission link will be 100km long.
