Brazilian bank to support small hydro growth

Brazil's Far South Regional Development Bank (BRDE) is helping to support the growth of small hydro in country after signing a cooperation agreement with hydropower association ABRAPCH to support growth in the sector, seenews renewables has reported.

In a two-year deal, the institutions are looking to jointly develop activities that will help increase investments in power generation companies focused on hydropower plants (HPPs).

There are currently over 14o small hydropower projects awaiting licensing from the Brazil government, of which several were made possible through BRDE financing, such as the 9MW Tigre and 4MW Salto Bandeirantes projects, data from power sector regulator Aneel shows.
