Brazilian companies take on new hydro

3 May 2005

The two companies are already working together on the 452MW, US$597M Piexe Anglical project in Tocantins State, and are now branching out to include four other schemes, including the 600MW Ipueiras in the same region and the 106MW Mirador project in the state of Goiás.

Energias do Brasil has a 60% stake in Piexe Anglical compared to Furnas’ 40%, and this plant is expected to start commercial operations in May 1006. The new projects will see Energias do Brasil as the controlling partner, since state controlled companies cannot have more than a 49% stake in joint ventures with private companies.
