The two run-of-river plants have a combined installed capacity of 7.4MW and produce 29GWh per year, all of which is supplied to BC Hydro under long-term power purchase agreements. The plants are near McBride and Valemont in the Canadian province.

In a statement, Brookfield said the acquisitions complete its portfolio of hydro assets in the province, which now total five plants.

Brookfield Power holds the power plants and activities of Brookfield Asset Management. The asset base includes more than 150 hydro plants and a pumped storage facility, which is an increase from the count of over 140 mid-year.

Recently, Brookfield bought a 12MW run-of-river plant on the Upper Hudson River from Finch Paper, and also struck a deal with Ford Motor Co to acquire the 18MW Twin Cities plant on the Mississippi river in Minnesota, US.

In addition, its subsidiary Brascan Energetica agreed to buy 11 plants with combined capacity of 45MW plus 188MW of Greenfield options in southern Brazil.
