Comprehensive modernization at its hydropower plants helped to increase RusHydro's installed capacity by 29MW to reach 38.6GW in 2015, the Russian utility has announced.

Installed capacity of the Volzhskaya hydropower plant increased by 10.5MW as a result of installation of a new turbine and generator, while the Zhigulevskaya also saw a 10.5MW increase thanks to the replacement of an old turbine at hydro unit No. 12.

All 23 units of the Kamskaya project were also modernized last year, leading to a capacity increase of 3MW, while a replacement of an old turbine at unit No 6 at Novosibirskaya lead to a 5MW increase.

RusHydro's comprehensive modernization program, which began in 2012, will be completed in 2025 resulting in replacement of all units with expired service life. Expected growth of electricity generation will amount to 1375.6 GW, the company said.
