Cavico completes tunnel bore for Nam Chien 2

4 June 2008

Concreting works on the 1,300m long headrace tunnel are due to be completed by March 2009. The value of the lining works is just over US$1.1M.

The tunnel excavation was originally to be 2,767m in length for a contract price of US$4.7M. The required works to excavate the 4.8m wide tunnel were reduced to 1,300m in length and the contract value revised down to US$2.4M.

Details of the reason for the change were not immediately available but the required excavation was finished two months early. In total, the revised contract value for Cavico’s tunnel works on the project is US$3.5M.

The 36MW project is being developed by the Northwest Joint Stock Company, which has invested approximately US$37.5M in the scheme. The plant is to generate 132GWh of electricity annually.
