Cavico JV wins tunnel works package on Dakdrinh project

4 September 2009

The package includes construction of a main tunnel and three sections, and is scheduled to take five years. The main tunnel is to be 7.5km long and 4.5m wide.

Cavico said its portion of the work is valued at US$16M. No details were immediately available on the total value of the contract or the portions for the JV partners.

The contract adds to the US$13.4M of awards that Cavico won earlier in the project for major earthworks focused on rock extraction, processing and transport. The initial contract of US$1.4M, for Phase 1, was recently expanded by US$12M for Phase 2 works.

Dakdrinh is being developed on the Tra Khuc river in Quang Ngai province by Dakdrinh Hydropower Company Joint Stock Co. The plant is designed to generate approximately 520GWh of electricity per year.

Financial support for the US212M project – previously cited as costing US$177M – is also coming from PetroVietnam Joint Stock Finance Corp and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam.
