Cemig secures 20-yr extensions to bundle of small hydro plants

Extensions to concessions for nine projects - including the 510MW Nova Ponte plant - were given to Companhia Energetica de Minas Gerais (Cemig) by the Ministry for Mines and Energy. The 20-year add-ons run from various times, assessed individually for each plant but generally from between 2001-2006.

The nine small hydro projects are:

1 - 4.2MW Pandeiros plant in Januaria municipality;

2 - 9.28MW Rio das Pedras plant in Itabirito municipality;

3 - 9.16MW Poco Fundo plant in the municipality of the same name;

4 - 6.82MW Sao Bernardo plant in the Pirangucu municipality;

5 - 1.81MW Xicao plant in Campanha municipality;

6 - 1.62MW Luiz Dias plant in Itajuba municipality;

7 - 704kW Santa Luzia in Centraline municipality;

8 - 1.192MW Emborcacao plant in Cascalho Rico e Araguari municipality; and,

9 - 510MW Nova Ponte plant in Nova Ponte municipality, the concession for which was extended to 2025.
