CFE and Iberdrola to collaborate in energy sector

11 June 2014

Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and Iberdrola have agreed to consider jointly developing power projects in Mexico, including renewable energy schemes, and exchange ideas to further develop new technologies in the energy sector.

A recent agreement signed by Iberdola Chairman Ignacio Galán, and CFE's Managing Director Enrique Ochoa Reza focuses on the areas of electricity generation, energy transmission and distribution and natural gas storage. It covers the exchange of information on new technologies and managerial experiences, and also considers the development of joint investment projects at renewable and conventional generation facilities, transmission networks and others linked to the electricity and gas industry.

In a statement, Iberdrola says the agreement strengthens it's commitment to Mexico, where it has an operating capacity of over 5.200MW in the form of combined cycle gas-fired power plants and wind farms. The company has been operating in Mexico since 1998 and plans to boost its presence in the country's energy market by investing some US$5 billion between 2014 and 2018.
