Chile grants permit for Rio Cuervo project

12 September 2013

The 640MW Rio Cuervo project in Chile's southern Aysen region has been given the greenlight by authorities in Chile.

The SEA environmental regulator this week approved the $733M project's environmental permit, newswires reported.

The project is being developed by Energia Austral, a joint venture between Australia's Origin Energy and mining company Glencore Xstrata. It was originally approved last year, but work was suspended when a court asked for further environmental studies.

Two new studies and an updated monitoring plan were subsequently submitted and approved.
