Chile hydro April output down 10% yr-on-yr

30 May 2007

The fall in hydro output from the previous month was even greater, dropping 19% from 2307 GWh to 1868 GWh in April, according to INS figures. The output last month leaves it almost on par with generation from thermal plants in the month.

Hydro's reduced output in April compared to last year came as the country produced more electricity than last time - up 4% to 4694 GWh. However, like hydro, the overall output in Chile was less than the previous month this year, reducing by almost 6% from March.

While hydro output was down for April year-on-year, INS said that generation from thermal and combine cycle plants jumped higher by 15.7% to 1841 GWh and 16.7% to 987 GWh, respectively.
