City seeks removal of Waupaca river dam

5 October 2004

Although the majority of the structure has already been removed, the city wants to take apart the concrete spillway, steel I-beams and abutments which are still in place, and stabilise the stream banks in an attempt to open up more of the river to fish as well as remove a safety hazard.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says that neither an environmental assessment nor an environmental impact statement are needed for this work, but is seeking public comments to be received by 15 October.
