Clamshell gates in action at Idaho dam

21 September 2004

US Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) engineers have spent the past three years working with irrigators, fish biologists, and the US Army Corps of Engineers to replace the dam’s original Ensign valves with 10 new clamshell gates.

The new gates have been installed on the downstream side of the dam at a cost of US$20M.
