Colombia awards licence for El Quimbo

Emgesa begins construction work this year and plans to have the 400MW plant operational by 2014.

The development budget for the project has been put at approximately US$750M by Emgesa. The company has a 30-year licence for the project following the commencement of operations.

El Quimbo will be located in Huila region, in the south west of the country, on the river Magdalena. It will be upstream of both the 540MW Betania plant and the confluence with the river Paez.
