Contract awarded for work on BC Hydro’s John Hart plant

3 February 2014

SNC Lavalin and Impsa have been awarded a contract by BC Hydro to upgrade and renovate the John Hart hydropower plant on the Campbell River in Vancouver, Canada. The project provides for the replacement of an existing power plant with a new headrace tunnel and a new powerhouse.

The new plant will be built next to the existing one, which has been in operation since 1947. The Build and Maintain project involves the construction of a new hydropower plant, with all the generation equipment, penstocks, and spillway as well as the civil works for the powerhouse, headrace tunnel, access roads, tourist trails, and related ancillary works required to execute the project.

Impsa and SNC Lavalin were awarded the contract after a competitive procurement process involving eight international bidders. Under the terms of the deal, Impsa is responsible for providing equipment, assembly and related services for USS110M.
