Czech Republic increases hydro production

8 April 2004

The production of hydro last year was hampered by the effects of the severe flooding in the Czech Republic in August 2002, which seriously damaged several hydroelectric power plants, including the Vltavske kaskady Orlik, Slapy and Stechovice plants. The operation of hydroelectric power plants was also negatively affected by last summer’s drought, said CEZ.

The volume of electricity generated from alternative sources last year was equivalent to five days of electricity consumption in the Czech Republic in the summer season.
