Dam purchase examined

1 October 2003

The US State of New Hampshire's newly formed Renewable Power Supply Acquisition Authority (RPSAA) and experts on river conservation met recently to discuss the potential purchase of a series of hydroelectric dams on the Connecticut and Deerfield rivers.

The discussions focused on concerns about the environmental and economic impact of state ownership of the hydro dams. The RPSAA was formed by state legislation passed earlier this year to explore the possibility of purchasing the dams, which together produce approximately 560MW of electricity.
