Dams breached in South Carolina flooding

6 October 2015

Evacuations have been ordered in the wake of a number of dam breaches in the US state of South Carolina.

According to the state's emergency management agency, at least 18 dams have breached or failed over the past few days, with the failure of Overcreek dam in Forest Acres leading to a major evacuation.

At least nine people have died in the state in weather related incidents. While severe rains have subsided, authorities have warned that issues are far from over. National Guard troops have been deployed to help respond to the storm, alongside state troopers and state workers.
