Deutsche Bahn on track for hydropower from RWE

25 July 2011

The agreement will see RWE supply electricity generated at hydro plants owned by its renewable energy subsidiary RWE Innogy on the Mosel, Saar, Rhine, Ruhr and Rur rivers over the next 15 years.

The contract is a significant contribution to Deutsche Bahn's goal of 100% electricity from renewables. Overall, annual electricity supply to Deutsche Bahn is around 900 GWh, enough to run around one-third of the long distance train fleet (ICE and IC) for one year.
