Developing hydropower at South Canal

19 November 2015

In its Final Environmental Assessment, the US Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) has said there will be no significant impact for developing hydropower at Drop 5 of the South Canal in Colorado, US.

The 2.4MW project, which is part of the Uncompahgre Project in Montrose, will be located approximately four miles downstream from the Drop 4 hydropower project on the South Canal. The hydropower plant will operate on irrigation water conveyed in the South Canal and no new diversions will occur as a result of this. Construction activities and operation of the hydropower plant will not affect the delivery of irrigation water.
