Direct frequency domain analysis of concrete gravity dams based on the FE-BE procedure

17 September 2004

A formulation relying on finite and boundary element discretisation (FE-BE) is presented for the dynamic analysis of concrete gravity dams in the frequency domain. Based on this method, a new computer program is developed, and the responses of an idealised dam foundation system are investigated for an empty reservoir. The method is compared initially with the BE-BE procedure from the point of view of accuracy. A parametric study is made of the effect of dam foundation interaction and the results are compared with previous research reported in the literature.
