Dunvegan set for public hearings

17 August 2001

The 80MW Dunvegan hydro project on the Peace river in Alberta, Canada, is expected to proceed to the public hearings stage in September 2001.

A pre-hearing conference was held in June 2001 at Fairview, Alberta, near the proposed site. All parties expected to participate in the hearing process were in attendance and outlined their positions to a joint panel of the Alberta Depart-ment of Environment and Utilities Board, and the Natural Resources Conservation Board.

The board panel has not yet set a formal hearing date but hearings are expected to commence next month. Canadian Hydro Developers, proponent of the project, anticipates that the review boards will be able to make a final recommendation at the end of 2001, so that construction can begin in spring 2002.
