EDP hydro output up in H1-'09

21 July 2009

The Portuguese utility has 910MW of hydro capacity serving the liberalised market in Iberia, which is unchanged compared to H1-'08.

Hydro generation in H1-'09 was up almost 22% to 913GWh compared to last time. The load factor in the first half was 23% compared to 19% in H1-'08.

The first half increase came despite a 20% fall in output to 376GWh in the second quarter compared to last time. Favourable hydrology in the first quarter led to the overall improved result for H1-'09. The load factor dropped to 19% from 24% in H1-'08.

For contract supplies first half output improved 17% to 3976GWh over H1-'08, although generation in the second quarter was half that of Q2-'08.

The installed hydro capacity serving the contract market in the first half was 4094MW, which is unchanged from last time.
