EIA for Cameroon dam project

11 June 2004

Plans to dam the rivers were first introduced 13 years ago, but were postponed due to opposition from environmentalists. However, due to increasing demand for power, Cameroon is now reconsidering the proposal to build the hydro dam on the Lom, a few kilometres downstream of its confluence with River Pangar.

The Lom-Pangar hydroelectric project includes a 50m high dam flooding an area of 610km2 and a 50MW hydroelectric plant.
