EIB, Centrobanca agree loans for renewables, hydro in Italy

EIB has agreed to provide a total of Euro200M (US$296M) and matching funds will come from Centrobanco, which is to identify and appraise the projects.

Loan for hydro power and most other projects – except photovoltaic (PV) solar – would have a term of 15 years. The PV projects are been given an additional five years to repay the debt.

In addition to generation projects, the loans will be available for energy efficiency schemes.

EIB said the loan was being made as part of its strategy to support projects to offset climate change probelms. Centrobanco is supporting renewables development by small businesses and institutional investors.
