The Iron Gates i and ii hydroelectric plants on the Danube river between Romania and the former Yugoslavia are likely to generate 6B kWh of electricity this year, exceeding the target figure by more than 600M kWh, according to the Medifax news agency.
The two plants account for around 12% of Romanian electricity production. All the generating units at the plant have been upgraded or will be upgraded.
Both Romania and the former Yugoslavia agreed that the two hydro plants would produce 130M kWh more electricity than planned in July and August to help Yugoslavia overcome an acute electricity shortage.
Meanwhile, the Hidroelectrica power producer in Romania reported high reservoir levels in July 2001, indicating higher than planned electricity production.
