Eletrobras Eletronorte to triple capacity of Coaracy Nunes project

28 August 2012

In a statement on its website, the company says a second powerhouse could be built at the project if regulator Aneel approves plans, submitted in late July. The company said the new powerhouse would have minimal environmental impact as it would be located within existing infrastructure. Work would include removal of a small dam but there would be no need for river diversion.

Aneel is expected to evaluate the project plans this year, and if approved, Eletrobras Eletronorte would begin the bidding process for construction work, which is expected to take 36-40 months.
