Eletronorte seeks hydro partners, Tucurui beats records

The larger of the two projects planned for the river Araguari is the Ferreira Gomes with a nominal capacity of 153MW. Firm power is seen at just over 100MW, the average almost 97MW. The gross head at the plant is 17.8m.

The second project is the 134MW Cachoeira do Caldeirao plant. Firm power is seen at almost 89MW, the average slightly less. The gross head at the plant is just 15.8m. Eletronorte said the closing date for interested parties to register interest is 30 May.

The company added that output from its Tucurui plant on the river Tocantins has beat records as more units are added to the plant. Over March and April, the company added three turbines of 375MW capacity to the plant.

When the first stage of the Tucurui project was commissioned the plant had a capacity of 4GW with 12 Francis units of 369MW nominal capacity plus two 20MW units. For the second stage, a total of 11 units will be installed, finishing in a few months and taking the total installed capacity to 8370MW, the company said. The previously listed total was 7960MW.
