Energia Escalona financing paves way for Mexico plant

8 August 2008

The 9.3MW 'Escalona' plant is to be built in the Las Minas river and benefit from the constant discharge from the upstream Las Minas hydro power scheme.

Leaf Clean Energy Co, which invests in renewable schemes, added that the plant was also expected to gain carbon credits under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol.

While announcing the completion of the US$20.9M round of project financing for the scheme, Leaf Clean Energy added that the credits would be an important revenue source to support its financing of the venture.
