Energy efficient Bill for hydro plants

15 June 2001

US Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn, from Bellevue in the state of Washington, has introduced legislation to help modernise existing hydroelectric dams in an effort to make them more energy efficient. Dunn said the Bill is aimed at helping owners of antiquated hydro equipment throughout Washington and across the US. According to estimates by the US Department of Energy, the state of Washington alone could generate an additional 875MW of electricity, while an additional 4316MW of electricity could be squeezed out of the nation's hydroelectric system.
