The project, expected to have a capacity of 5000MW, would be completed within the next 10 years to help address severe power shortages in the country. According to reports from Reuters, the country’s Prime Minister, Meles Zenawi, said the project will be inaugurated in the next few weeks.

As part of a power improvement strategy, Ethiopia aims to generate an additional 15,000MW over the next 10 years from new power projects.
